Sharpen Your Putting Skills Over the Winter

Many golfers spend the majority of their winter golf practice hitting balls into a simulator or inside a heated dome and they neglect to practice their putting.

Don’t loose your short game over the winter. Try these three simple and cost-effective indoor putting drills to keep your game sharp.

  1. Three tees – place three tees upside down in a triangle formation.  The two front tees 3 inches apart and the third tee 6 inches back and center. Putt through the two tees and knock the middle tee down.
  2. Rubber Bands – Find the sweet spot of your putter by wrapping a small rubber band just slightly toward the heel end of your putter and another band toward the toe. When you putt, focus on contacting the sweet spot to avoid hitting the bands.
  3. Yardstick – Place a golf ball near the end of the yardstick and putt down the yardstick.  Assess how many times the ball rolls down and off the end of the stick.

Try using all three drills together.  See how many times you can keep the ball rolling on a straight path as you measure and lengthen the distance.
