When I practice my putting, I like to use alignment sticks and tees to help me line-up and to produce a consistent stroke. If you are a square-to-square putter, try this practice drill. Place two alignment sticks parallel to each other with just enough space for your putter to move down a straight path with a square face to the target.

The tee behind the putter keeps the putter from going back to far, while the two tees in front helps to keep the club face square through to the target.

The goal is to just barely hit the one tee when making your back stroke and to hit the two tees at the same time when making your forward stroke. Try counting “one and two” as you hit the one tee going back and two as you hit the two tees coming through. This can help to create better tempo in your stroke.

The next time you head to the course don’t overlook the practice putting green. If you spend 10-20 minutes using this simple drill before you play you will have more confidence and make more putts.
